| | | | | | | | LEARN MORE Google is planning to make Internet access better and faster. It plans to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations in America. We want Google to select Palo Alto (as the city or as one of the cities) for its new superfast Internet open fiber system. The City submitted its response to Google's Fiber for Communities Request for Information on March 26, 2010. There was a tremendous amount of support in the community for the City’s response. Google expects to announce the community or communities where it will build its networks this year. Google plans to deliver Internet speeds that are more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have today, more than 1 gigabit per second fiber-to-the-home connections! If Palo Alto is selected by Google as a trial location, it means the community would receive an extraordinary benefit for its schools, homes, businesses and for everyone who wants access to the fastest Internet connections on the planet. The Google offer of a blazing-fast open fiber network could mean about $50 million of leading edge infrastructure for Palo Alto, if selected. A Google Open Fiber partnership with the City would capitalize on Palo Alto’s renowned innovative assets, and there are many – residents, businesses, startups, educators, health care professionals, venture capital, professional services, families with students, and volunteers. An investment by Google in our community with new state of the art fiber infrastructure would mean innovative new services at competitive prices not offered anywhere else.
